A brief history of Nathan Whitworth

A short history of my 10 year career
Starting out as a PHP developer for Britain's largest private number plate dealer, I quickly became adept at various aspects of the fledgling world of search. In the days of Goto.com, and long before Google Adwords, I was involved with account management as well as creating bid management tools that, lacking any choice, had to operate by 'screen scraping' the engine's pages.

My career path later took me on another route, where I built, from the ground up, a mail order department for a bike shop in Lancashire. I built everything from the stock control system, to the electronic point of sale software to run the tills on the shop floor.
Internet marketing and customer relations were also a very important aspect of building the new business. A year later, the mission was complete, and I left a successful venture in my wake.

Moving on a bit, in October 2005, I joined The Searchworks to help develop their market leading PPC management tool, BidBuddy.
In 2007 the group that owned The Searchworks (IMW) was acquired by TradeDoubler, and by then I had been promoted to the Lead Software Designer for the newly rebranded product 'Searchware'.

After 4 years at the company that started out as The Searchworks, and having completed a successful acquisition, I decided to leave for pastures new.
I did indeed leave, in March 2009, and the pastures new turned out to be the North sea, as I set sail on my own in a bid to Round Britain in my 21ft yacht, Kudu.
I began to blog about my adventures, and the rantings went on to, quite surprisingly, attract well over 100,000 readers.

I am now back to PHP contracting, and very much enjoying it.
